All strings are handmade to create the best possible tone. The average piano uses 12 different gauges of wire. The difference from one gauge of piano wire to the next is one-third that of a human hair! Monochord and bichord strings – accounting for the lowest third of the piano’s range – are copper-wrapped steel while the remaining trichord strings are bare steel. •
